Droopy Ears
Cause:
Genetic, extreme weather conditions, injury
Symptoms:
The tip of the ear has a distinct droop or fall. The ear may not be completely pendulous, falling to the side.
Treatment:
None, if believed to be hereditary or an injury to ear base. Some correct themselves with cooler weather.
If the ears are completely down, it's usually due to an injury to the tendons and muscles that support the ear. It can also be a weak ear carriage due to heredity. You should always, when selecting breeding stock, to see if the ears are properly carried, erect and straight. If not, this weakness of droopy ears may be passed on to future generations. Excluding of course the Lop Ear breeds.
