Footless or Earless Rabbits
Cause:
The doe bites the feet or ears off babies during deliver
Symptoms:
Rabbits without feet or ears.
Treatment:
Prevent your breeding does from becoming upset, exited or unnerved.
Sometimes baby rabbits are actually born with apparent deformities, -missing feet or ears. This is usually NOT genetic, but more than likely due to a nervous doe during kindling.
At kindling a doe usually pulls the baby bunnies out of the birth canal with her mouth.
If a doe becomes too aggressive or nervous, she can actually nip off the little feet or ears. When you check the nest box a few days later, they appear to be born without feet or ears, as it heals so quickly.
Although it isn't very common, it is another good reason, to provide comfort, stress free, safe and a protected environment for your rabbits.
