Scabby Spots On Neck & Shoulders

Cause:
Bacterial Infection

Symptoms:
Usually appears in hot weather; inflamed, scabby and infected condition on the back of the neck or top of the shoulders.

Treatment:
Wash the infected area with soapy water, then apply an antibacterial powder/spray or ointment.


This condition especially occurs during the warm summer season. Since rabbits can't lick and keep this area clean, dirt and dead skin accumulate and the skin becomes irritated. Which causes the rabbit to rub or scratch at the irritated area, causing breaks in the skin, which may then become infected.

Simple treatment is to use mild soapy water and a good antibacterial healing agent. Treatment should be repeated daily until the signs of the irritation disappear.
