Scabby Nose & Lips

Cause:
Bacterial Infection

Symptoms:
Skin of the nose and lips are cracked, with a yellowish or brown scab has formed, the mucus membranes of the nose and lips are inflamed and chapped.

Treatment:
Apply an antibacterial powder/spray/ointment to the area and give a daily dose of penicillin for 3 days.


The same infection the causes vent disease is that which causes scabby nose & lips. Eradication of vent disease is the first step to prevent development of scabby nose & lips.

Treatment should be given for 3 days, and the scabs will usually disappear a few days after treatment. Without any treatment, even if the scabs heal, the rabbit will be a carrier of the disease.
