Light infestation of Tapeworm, seldom produces any noticeable injury. However, heavy infestation will cause the rabbit to be in poor health and unthrifty.

An adult tapeworm si found in dogs and cats and the eggs pass from the infested host with the feces. Infection occurs when feed is somehow contaminated with the tapeworm eggs and is ingested into the rabbits body. Tapeworms may be found just beneath the skin of the rabbit or attached to the organs in the body cavity.

To prevent tapeworm infestation, keep all dogs and cats out of your rabbitry. Since mice and rats may act as carriers, bait stations should be used year round. Since there is no treatment for removing the tapeworm from the rabbit, prevention is the only alternative.
