Tyzzer's disease causes sever diarrhea, affecting rabbits of ALL ages. Death will usually occur in 24 to 36 hours after symptoms, due to dehydration. Early treatment is necessary to be effective.
Tyzzer's is hard to diagnose from other enteritis type diseases. On autopsy it will show a very red and bloody large intestine with white spots on the liver and cecum.
Tyzzer's disease is rather rare and is usually associated iwth some type of severe stress, such as dramatic change in weather conditions. It is spread by the bacteria (bacillus piliformis) and can move very quickly through a rabbitry affecting rabbits of all ages.
